Initial Telephone Screening Process

Assessing Eligibility for Admission to the Southwest Endoscopy Center

This tool is provided for the use of Digestive Health and Southwest Endoscopy staff.
At an initial telephone request for an appointment, the scheduler will inquire as follows.

1. Do you have a cardiac pacemaker, automated implanted cardiac defibrillator (AICD), deep brain stimulator or other implanted electronic device?

If yes, stop and go to Response below. If no, proceed to question 2.


2. Do you use supplemental oxygen during the day?

If yes, stop and go to Response below. If no, proceed to question 3.


3. Are you being treated with dialysis?

If yes, stop and go to Response below. If no, proceed to question 4.


4. What is your height and weight (calculate BMI)?
If >45, go to Response below.


Response to any "yes" answer or a BMI>45:
Explain that we are unable to accept new patients at this time who are not medically eligible for care at our facility because we cannot schedule their care in a timely manner. Inform them that Mercy Regional Medical Center has established a gastroenterology practice (Centura Health Physician Group Southwest Gastroenterology) that employs gastroenterologist who work full time at its facility and who have access to the resources needed to provide them more expeditiously with hospital-based care that is beyond our licensed scope of services. Passing an initial telephone screen does not assure eligibility for an appointment or for admission to the Southwest Endoscopy Center.
